Elite - Top competitors in the Indian market

Speak about
hatchbacks in the country and names of two big brands immediately crop up in
our minds. Maruti’s Swift and Hyundai recently launched Elite i20. Maruti
Suzuki and Hyundai have both been strong brands in the Indian market. For a
while now news has also been doing rounds that Maruti Suzuki shall launch the
facelifted version of Swift hatchback sometime soon. The diesel variant of
recently launched Hyundai Elite i20 is priced at about Rs. 6.09 lakhs, whereas
the petrol trim has been launched at Rs. 4.89 lakhs. Both the prices are
ex-showroom Delhi based.

Hyundai i20 Elite
Last month,
Hyundai India reported 8902 units sales for its newly launched Elite i20. The
numbers are impressive as the hatchback’s sales number is a major contributor
to total 35,041 units sales for the Hyundai brand in India. The fairly powered
1.2 litre engine returns an impressive fuel efficiency of about 18.6 kmpl.
Whereas, the diesel version is powered by a 1.4 litre U2 CRDi engine that
delivers top power of about 90 PS with a peak torque of about 22.4 kgm. The
diesel trim also does not fail to impress and returns good fuel economy of
about 22.54 kmpl. The new hatchback is mated with a safety pedal that ensures
that the car comes to a halt when the driver accidentally steps on the brakes
and accelerator simultaneously.

Suzuki Swift
The current
generation of Maruti Swift is available in petrol as well as diesel trims.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine, whereas the
diesel variant is powered by the existing 1.3 litre engine. The upcoming
facelifted version may also be powered by similar engine and may receive fresh
cosmetic upgrades. The petrol version delivers a decent fuel efficiency of 18.6
kmpl. Whereas, the diesel trim delivers an impressive mileage of about 22.9
kmpl. The diesel trim gets Turbocharger and Inter-cooler Combination thereby
delivering higher torque, efficient combustion and cleaner emission.
Interiors in
the new Hyundai Elite i20 carries a rich upmarket feel, whereas Swift also come
with adequate legroom. Pricing aspect for the upcoming Maruti Swift is unknown
for now, but it is believed that Maruti Suzuki has charge an additional Rs.
20,000 – 30,000 on the new trims.
