BMW 1M And Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG ADV.1 – Photoshoot

Sometimes comparing two things that are probably miles apart from each other in style, form and function can provide so much insight into the works …

A BMW 1M and a Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG fulfill two completely seperate roles in the car performance market, but they are certainly viable candidates to fulfill our boring Mondays. Both of these cars pack one nice punch when performance is in question and both will exhilirate you in similar, but completely different ways.

A Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG is powered by a AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine rated at 525 PS (386 kW; 518 hp) at 5250rpm and 700 N·m (516 lb·ft) at 1750-5250rpm. It also comes with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission making the approx. 2000lbs car accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 4.4 seconds. It’s a luxury laden vehicle. Fully comfort oriented interior, abundance of technological additions together with performance aspects. It’s a great way to travel no doubt. But with that weight, an interesting suspension system that’s more oriented to comfort than performance driving, it’s not exactly a drivers car in every area.

On the other hand, a BMW 1M is clearly what you would imagine. A pure drivers car ensuring driving performance, speed and handling are what you get when performance driving is considered. The BMW 1M Coupé uses a re-tuned version of the twin-turbocharged N54 engine. In the 1M Coupe, the engine produces 340 PS (250 kW) at 5900 rpm and 332 lb·ft (450 N·m) torque from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm (with +369 lb·ft (500 N·m) overboost). The only available drivetrain is a six-speed manual gearbox with a limited slip differential. This allows the 3,296 lb (1,495 kg) heavy car to accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in 4.8 seconds.
BMW was originally going to release the 1M Coupé as a limited production model of 2,700 units. Then due to overwhelming demand, the company lifted the cap and produced a total of 6,309 cars until production ended in June 2012. When roduction of the 1M Coupé stopped in June 2012, it was done with 740 units sold in the US and other 220 units sold in Canada. Total 6,309 cars sold worldwide making it a reasonably good collectors car based on the production numbers, power and performance combined with aggressive appearance of this small and nimble racer.

Both of these cars come equipped with ADV.1 Wheels as you can see from the photoshoot added. BMW 1M has a set of ADV15 MV.2 wheels installed. The Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG comes equipped with a set of ADV10 Track Spec wheels installed.
