It was
only a matter of time before Toyota Racing Development (TRD) updated its Camry
race car to fall in line with the updated styling we’ve seen for the 2015
Toyota Camry production model. Like the road-going version, the 2015 Toyota
Camry NASCAR racer is sleeker and more stylish from every angle.
Toyota
brought out the “Gen-6”
Camry race car back in 2012, ahead of competition in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series (NSCS) season. Toyota is the first manufacturer to redesign its
“Gen-6” race car since then, leading the charge in a joint effort between
manufacturers and NASCAR to better incorporate styling from the road cars into
the race cars.
TRD
partnered up with Toyota's Calty Design to update the 2015 Toyota Camry with
the production model’s wider, more aggressive front end and grille; wrap-around
taillights; and a more cohesive quarter window. The overall design helps the
race car better resemble the production
2015 Toyota Camry, showing
audiences a clearer and more present connection between Toyota’s racing and
mass production efforts. Toyota replaced all of the production Camry’s sheet
metal with new from the last model to the current 2015 car, with the roof as
the only carry-over body piece, so it is fitting that the NASCAR version makes
similar strides with this updated design.
“We
anticipate that fans will appreciate the development behind this bold Camry
design, both on the race track and the showroom floor,” said Toyota vice
president of marketing and performance Ed Laukes, in a statement.
The 2015
Toyota Camry NSCS race car will make its debut at Daytona International
Speedway at Speedweeks in February, before joining the NASCAR Xfinity series
next season. The street car, meanwhile, is on sale
now from $23,795.
