2015:Hyundai ix25 To Be Launched in India

Vrooommmm...

Hyundai has played a huge role in Indian auto industry with its ever transforming products. Be it the cookie-cutter small car segment or all the way up to the full-size SUV’s, it has explored it all. But there lies a frequently grown segment of compact sized SUV that is yet to be experienced by India’s second largest manufacturer. Well now, the wait is finally over with the much anticipated ix25 making its debut in China. It was showcased in Beijing Auto Expo (2014) as a concept and later the production version was displayed at Chengdu Motor Show. In China, ix25 falls in the price bracket of approx INR 11.95 lakhs to INR 17.93 lakhs (which costs around 119,800 RMB to 179,800 RMB).
On the contrary, these prices would certainly drop drastically in the India bound ix25 as it will be pitted against the likes of Nissan Terrano, Ford Ecosport and Renault Duster. Additionally, Hyundai is testing it on our grounds but it will only make it to the market around the first half of 2015. Taking into account, the manufacturer would surely mass produce this car here unlike Santa Fe which is being imported. Eventually, it would result in low cost in manufacturing and hence lower overall pricing. It might also trim this SUV to make it enter the list of under-4 meter cars. Let’s take a detailed look into this sporty little SUV.

Powering this crossover are two petrol engines, a 1.6 litre and a hot 2.0 litre. The former is similar to the one doing duty in Verna sedan in India which generates 122.8bhp@6300rpm of power and generous 150.7Nm of peak torque. While the latter is a performance oriented mill churning out a whooping 158bhp@6500rpm of power and max torque of 192Nm at 4800 revs. Drivewise, it is offered with both 2WD and 4WD in China both mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, for a country obsessed with mileage, that is ours, it is speculated to receive the ever popular 1.6 litre diesel from Verna. Also, it could be offered in the 1.6 litre VTVT petrol as an option.

On the design front, it incorporates Hyundai’s fluidic concept version 2.0. At the first glance, it could be related to Santa Fe, just a little small, which is good. Upfront, it boasts the signature hexagonal grill flaunting three vertical slats on which the badge sits proudly. The bumper is carved with meaty air scoops complemented by a silver underlip. The headlamps gives it a charging forward poise along with foglamps indented at the bottom sides of the front. Bonnet too is underlined by a smooth counter running on the periphery adding to its character. The sides features prominent shoulder lines and the bottom cladding which runs throughout the body of the car providing it a gravity of its own. The rear too doesn’t disappoint with the curvy tail light which starts from the rear fender and reaching towards the middle of the angular tail gate. At the rear bottom, the sporty silver diffuser integrated into the cladding makes a lot of sense.
Inside the cockpit, it gets equally crafted design as of outside. The car features an outlandish dashboard and body panels. The tacho console too shares resemblance to its elder sibling. The car features Hyundai’s BlueLink touchscreen infotainment system along with SatNav and rear parking assist.

Looking at the buzz, it is widely being talked over Indian automotive blogs. With streams of questions coming from the future buyers of this stunning offering. Furthermore, since compact SUV segment will be a new spot for Hyundai it would be exciting to see the way it performs in our market.
Hyundai has made up its mind for entering into compact SUV segment and such thinking is now being converted into action with the launch of new ix25, a novel trendsetter for SUV’s.
